Giving when it matters

When disaster strikes, our volunteers step up. Since 2023 we have run fundraising stalls, online appeals and community screenings for three humanitarian charities, each with the charity’s written approval.

Türkiye-Syria Earthquakes Appeal

The earthquakes of 6 February 2023 hit northern Syria and southern Türkiye, a region close to the hearts of our families. Within days we opened an official Red Cross fundraising page and set up a stall at Westfield Doncaster, staffed by club volunteers.

  • $35,569 donated through our online fundraising page
  • A three-day stall at Westfield Doncaster, 15 to 17 February 2023
  • A certificate of appreciation signed by the Red Cross CEO, Kym Pfitzner

Libya and Morocco emergency appeals

Raised$6,069

After the Morocco earthquake and the Libya floods in September 2023, our volunteers ran a fundraising stall at Pacific Epping for UNICEF Australia’s appeals for children caught up in both disasters.

  • $4,288 for the Libya appeal and $1,781 for the Morocco appeal
  • A fundraising stall at Pacific Epping, 30 September and 1 October 2023
  • UNICEF Australia thanked the club for its support through the emergencies in Türkiye and Syria, Morocco and Libya
  • A community fundraising certificate of appreciation from UNICEF Australia, October 2023

Gaza Hospitals Appeal

Raised$4,944

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepened in October 2023, we asked MSF Australia for a fundraising page for our community. Our Palestine Screenings Series then raised money for the appeal at every screening.

  • Six screenings of the documentary Tantura, December 2023 to February 2024
  • Donations through our official MSF fundraising page
  • A letter of authority from MSF Australia to fundraise for its work in Gaza
